Digital skills are fundamental to all aspects of life, including:
- understanding and using AI tools effectively particularly in relation to data analysis
- understanding and applying design to digital solutions
- understanding the need for and use of cyber techniques to keep data safe.
The course is designed to give you an insight into the core principles of digital systems and data to ensure that you have the necessary skills and understanding that businesses require in a rapidly changing environment.
You’ll learn to understand the advantages and limitations of AI systems and how to harness these to aid you in policies for cyber protection.
You will learn:
- knowledge of core digital systems including hardware, software, network infrastructure, data storage and user interfaces
- Design UX/UI and to understand user needs when designing digital solutions
- to understand cyber threats and countermeasures
- to understand importance of AI enabled systems, AI data analytics, and limitations of these systems.
- to apply knowledge and understanding of all of these topics.
As a minimum, you will need (or equivalent to):
- GCSE Mathematics grade 4
- GCSE English Language grade 4
- plus three more GCSEs at grade 4

This course will prepare you for a wide range of careers including roles in Information Technology, Computing, and Data Science.
Will I have to complete a work placement?
This is not part of the qualification but is encouraged and currently our department is working with an external agency to provide a work placement for vocational computing students in Year 2.
