Richard Huish College celebrated its Class of 2024 prize-winners in a ceremony last night (Thursday 25th of April).

Nominated by staff, prizes were awarded to students who went above and beyond during their time at Huish – including those who reflected the college’s values, achieved outstanding results, or overcame personal challenges.

Guests were welcomed with an acoustic music performance on arrival from current students Kitty Main and Hugo Wallace, which set the scene for a celebratory evening.

Amongst the prizes awarded on the night were two principal’s awards: Student of the Year (awarded to Alex Bulloso, pictured) and Contribution to the College Community (won by Josh Slingo).

When nominating Alex Bulloso for the Student of the Year award, staff comments included: “Alex was diligent and driven in his efforts but never seemed phased by his heavy workload of 4 A-level subjects and an EPQ. We were delighted that he achieved A* grades across his study programme. Alex also participated fully in EnRICH activities including the Royal Society of Chemistry Analyst competition, the Youth STEMM award, and taking on the role of a ‘buddy’ to a Year 1 student. He has gone on to study medicine at Cambridge University and he will be a true asset to his course and his profession in the future”.

Although Josh Slingo could not attend on the night to collect the Contribution to the College Community award, on hearing the news that he had won he commented that: “My time at Huish helped me to develop in many areas and I’m grateful for all the opportunities that were available to me. I’m truly proud to have been a part of the Huish community, I know so many more students will continue to progress on from the college feeling confident to succeed in their careers”.

The event offered a great chance for winners to catch up and staff to hear about students’ progression since leaving Huish. Representatives for sponsored prizes were able to help celebrate the winners’ success, as well as share advice from their relevant careers.

Thank you to all who attended the evening and the individuals and organisations who continue to sponsor and support these awards: Amicus Law, Bill Revans, Helen Twyble, Mr & Mrs Belluomo, Peter Avery, Robert Spooner, Rosie Austin, Somerset Care, Taunton Chamber of Commerce and Wellington Motors.

Huge congratulations to all Class of 2024 winners below, as well as all students highly commended for these prizes.
