Richard Huish College was represented by Student Executive member Teagan Frith and Vice Principal for Student Experience Becky Flower at a supper hosted by Inner Wheel (Taunton and Taunton Vale) at Taunton Racecourse on 20th October.

The event brought together representatives from local women’s groups in support of the United Nations initiatives UNITE to End Violence Against Women and Girls and Orange the World, campaigns that seek to raise awareness of gender-based violence and encourage action to create a safer future for women and girls around the world.

Inner Wheel is one of the world’s largest women’s voluntary service organisations, with representation at the United Nations, supporting local, national and international causes through friendship, service and action.

Guests attended dressed in orange, the colour that symbolises hope and a future free from violence. During the evening, attendees heard from Joanne Wallace-Beecham, Coordinator at the Somerset Domestic Abuse Service, who spoke about the impact of domestic abuse and the importance of education, awareness and community support.

Becky Flower, Vice Principal for Student Experience at Huish, said: “We were grateful to Inner Wheel for the opportunity to attend such an important event. It was inspiring to hear from organisations and individuals working to raise awareness and support those affected by violence and abuse. Events like this encourage meaningful conversations and demonstrate the positive impact communities can have when they come together behind a shared cause.”

At Huish, we encourage students to engage with issues that matter in their communities and beyond. Opportunities such as this help students develop greater awareness of social challenges while learning from organisations working to create positive change.
