We are thrilled to announce that current Richard Huish College student Janis Lusitis has been accepted into the prestigious University of Richmond in Virginia after participating in the Sutton Trust Fulbright US Programme. He has also been awarded funding from the university itself – worth a hugely generous $300,000+!
A former Huish Episcopi Academy pupil, Janis is currently studying A Levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Psychology and Economics. Intending to major in Mathematical Economics, he will begin his university studies this autumn, marking an exciting new chapter in his academic journey.
Last year, Janis was selected from a pool of over 1,000 applicants to become one of only 150 students chosen for the Sutton Trust Fulbright US Programme. This incredible opportunity included a summer school at Princeton University as well as tours of top US universities where Janis met admissions officers and explored various campus environments. Throughout the year, he received dedicated support from the US-UK Fulbright Commission, covering everything from admission tests and college selection to the application process itself.
This achievement is a testament to Janis’ hard work and determination. It also highlights the opportunities that students at Huish can access, thanks to programmes like the Sutton Trust Fulbright US Programme.
Commenting on the help he received with the scheme from Richard Jones (Careers, Exams and Learning Centre Manager) Janis commented: “I wanted to thank you for all of your help with the application materials from your side, as well as for helping me to get onto the programme in the first place…without you mentioning it in an Academic Enrich assembly last year, I wouldn’t have come close to doing anything like this. I cannot thank you enough!”
