Former The Castle School pupil Eleanor studied at Huish from 2013 to 2015 and began her journey toward becoming an Educational Psychologist.

“At Huish I achieved straight As in Psychology, Geography, Philosophy and Ethics, and AS Maths but my favourite part of college was the enrichment opportunities. I played violin in the Orchestra and saxophone in the Big Band. When I got my results I was initially disheartened as I missed my firm university offer of A*AA, however I have ended up exactly where I want to be.

“My advice to all would be: don’t be discouraged if your path doesn’t go exactly as planned. I went to my insurance choice university, and it worked out better than I could’ve imagined! Focus on developing your interests, saying yes to opportunities, and trust that you will get to where you want to be.

“Since leaving Huish, I’ve gained a 2:1 BSc in Psychology and a Distinction in PGCE Primary Education from Durham University, followed by a Distinction MSc in Learning and Teaching from Oxford University. I’m also currently two thirds of the way through completing a professional training Doctorate in Educational Psychology at Exeter University. This will qualify me as an Educational Psychologist in September 2026.

“In between my education I have worked as a Primary Teacher for four years, and I am currently on placement with an educational psychology service where I could commence my qualified role next September.

“I love my career in educational psychology – it allows me to support a wide range of children and young people at different stages of their education, using psychology to create positive change.”

In addition to her success, Eleanor was recently published in the UK’s leading educational psychology peer-reviewed journal.

Eleanor’s journey is a powerful example of how Huish students can achieve more than they thought possible. Congrats Eleanor!
