COMPUTING: APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
LEVEL 3: CAMBRIDGE ADVANCED NATIONAL

You will study the creative side for designing applications.
You will be study in depth the way in which to test applications.
You will be challenged to create robust, working and interesting applications for a range of end users.
The course looks at the fundamental processes of programming across the spectrum of UX/UI, Game Development, Website Development.
If you love programming, this is the course for you!
Computing: Application Development is an exciting and in-depth course taking you onto careers that are in high demand.
You will study a range of applications including games design, software development and web design which will give you the necessary skills for these skills shortage areas.
You will also have the opportunity for enrichment in areas such as building a PC, 3D printing and 360° scanning.
If you have an interested in a dynamic computing course then this is the course for you!
As a minimum, you will need (or equivalent to):
- GCSE Mathematics grade 4
- GCSE English Language grade 4
- plus three more GCSEs at grade 4
For the BTEC Extended Diploma, a Level 2 vocational qualification at grade merit or above can be accepted in place of one GCSE.
There are 2 exams and 3 supervised internal assessments.
External exam units:
- Fundamentals of application development
- Developing application software
Internal assessment units:
- Designing and communicating UX/UI
- Game development
- Website development
You can progress to university, a degree apprenticeship or directly into a job.
Career areas you may enter are games development, HCI (UX/UI), programming or website development.
This qualification supports any job which requires problem solving.
Do I need to have coded before?
No, but it is useful – a strong interest in all things computing is required though.
