Huish is proud to congratulate the Men’s First Football Team on making history by reaching the last 16 of the Tier 1/2 National Cup, the furthest the Huish team have ever progressed in this prestigious competition.

Competing in Tier 2, the team were entered into the highest-level cup competition, facing opponents from both Tier 1 and Tier 2. Their journey included two exceptional victories over Tier 1 sides, each secured after dramatic comebacks. In both matches, the team overturned 3–0 deficits at half-time, showing remarkable determination and resilience to draw level before holding their nerve to win on penalties.

The team’s cup run came to an end against a formidable Tier 1 opponent whose squad included players with professional contracts, semi-professional experience, and time spent in professional academies. Despite challenging weather and the strength of the opposition, our players delivered an outstanding performance, going into half-time level at 1–1. Although the match finished 4–1, the result reflects an exceptional effort and a performance the college is incredibly proud of.

One of the strongest endorsements came from the opposition’s coaching staff, who praised both the quality of our football programme and the competitive, intelligent play of the team. They noted that our side caused significant problems and proved extremely difficult to break down – high praise given the calibre of their squad.

This cup run represents a major achievement for a small academic sixth form college and highlights the talent, work ethic, and spirit of everyone involved.

Speaking about the team’s journey, Mike Ryan, Sports Development Officer at Huish offered thanks to all players for their commitment throughout the year:

“It has been a privilege to work with such a talented, polite, and respectful group of young men who are a real credit to the college.”

The college extends its congratulations to the entire squad and celebrates a landmark moment in the continued development of its football programme.
